Caelia is one of the seven provinces of the Republic of Valentia, and the fourth in size, after Capitolina, Palatina, and Vimina.

HistoryEdit

The Caelii are one of the seven ancient families of Valentia, in the earliest of days a strong tribe in their own right. The perpetual darkness of the pre-Auroram world has hidden much of the history of those early days, yet the Caelii still recall the legends and myths of their forefathers: the battlelust of Marcus Caelius; the three-day Battle of Cremon; the tunnel-cities of the Nori.

After the Heims Perpetua, the Caelii settled to the east of the City, establishing Cremona on a small, defensible series of hills. In the ensuing century, the Caelii have settled comfortably into an agrarian lifestyle. Several famous authors and essayists have called the small villages and towns of Caelia home, and the fields of grain have been often immortalized in song and prose.

GeographyEdit

Caelia is located directly to the east of the City, and borders two provinces: Aventina in the north and east, and Capitolina in the west. To the south the province borders the Sea of Levant. Much of her landmass consists of gently rolling plains, with the exception of some steep-sided hills on the western side of the province, upon which several of the Caelii founded Cremona, the provincial capital. A single large and slow-moving river flows through Caelia, the Trajanis. This river is the lifeblood of trade through the interior of Borealis, particularly the trade between Ancelstierre's outer shires and the provinces of the Republic.

Population CentersEdit

The largest city in Caelia is the provincial capital, Cremona. Cremona hugs the southern shore of the Trajanis, and a single bridge over the river connects the city center with the Via Kellenheim.

Mycelia is located to the south of Cremona, and is the curious relic of whimsical construction by a long-departed mayor. The houses utilized the impressive nutritional capabilities of bonemeal fertilizer to grow giant mushrooms, when later formed the roof and support beams of a large number of the homes and shops in the town. A large, imposing tower served as the original mayoral abode, but since the autocratic founder of Mycelia vanished, the town has returned to a more peaceful existence, maintaining more traditional buildings and governmental systems.

The final major population center, called Adamas, may be found on the eastern border of Caelia. The smallest of the three cities, Adamas has few buildings, but boasts large and ancient mineshafts traversing a deep fissure in the earth. The city's primary export is ore and materials from the mines.

EconomyEdit

The economy of Caelia is largely dominated by agricultural products, primarily wheat. The vast farms of Cremona provide much of the bread for the City, and the smaller-scale beef and wool producers find willing buyers across Borealis.
